Shadows of the Void

What have you been reading this summer? I’ve been busy reading science fiction and science fantasy for homework! I can safely say that it beats any homework I ever had while I was at school.

I’ve been reading M.D. Cooper’s Intrepid Saga and Glynn Stewart’s Starship’s Mage as preparation for a couple of projects I’m working on. I’ll tell you about those in a later newsletter because they’re only twinkles in my eye at the moment.

What I can report is that I completed my contribution to the forthcoming, much-anticipated second volume of Pew, Pew! Sex, Guns, Spaceships…Oh My!. I’ve sent my novella off to my editor, but if you’d like a taste of Trash Beings of the Galaxy, Unite, check out this final snippet.

Many thanks to everyone who applied to join my ARC team. If I haven’t yet replied to you, I apologise. I’m still working through the applications.

If you missed my explanation in my last Starship JJ Green bulletin, ARC readers receive free copies of my books before they’re published and an invitation to leave a review. I still have some places on the team, but please, if you’d like to apply, remember that you must send me a link to a review you’ve already written on one of my books.

But that’s enough housekeeping! Have a look at these amazing books I’m bringing to you this week. Marked by Fate is a collection of YA coming of age  science fiction and fantasy novels by top authors, and Selling Out is a fabulous new novel in a new series (based in her Dragonfire Station universe) from Zen DiPetrio.

Both of these top quality books are only 99 cents for a limited time.

Selling Out

Begin a fun, exciting epic science fiction series that spans an entire galaxy. Selling Out continues the Dragonfire Station universe with Cabot’s story.

It’s all just fun and games unless a profit can be made.

Cabot Layne is a trader, through and through. Some might call him a pirate, but he never breaks the law. He only bends it. One thing’s for sure–he’s certainly no hero. Except a certain BlackOps officer seems to think he is, and sends him off on a mission only a trader can pull off.

That only a very good trader can pull off.

War is good for business.

Cabot’s not concerned with the safety of an allied planet, or even the PAC itself–everyone knows guys like him are privateers who only care about themselves. But if he can save the planet and make a profit too…well, that might not hurt his reputation too much.

Sometimes a shady guy needs to play good guy.

For fans of seat-of-the-pants fun of Guardians of the Galaxy, or the character-driven frontierland of Firefly, this epic science fiction series is a satisfying, page-turning read.

My son’s home from school now until the end of August, and like most working parents I’m juggling work and, well, being a mum. Though we live in Taiwan, in many ways life is the same as it would be in the UK. My washing machine broke just now, for example!

On the other hand, things can be very different. We’re expecting a typhoon this weekend, although it doesn’t look as though it’s going to hit Taipei hard. They’re capricious beasts, however, so you never know.

I hope the weather is calmer wherever you are in the world, and that your washing machine functions as normal.

Happy reading!
