2020 was quite a year! Many of us tried to escape from it all by burying our heads in books.

Without choosing J.J. Green books – naturally! – the shipmates were asked to select their best science fiction books of 2020. Some only named an author, so I picked one of that writer’s books to feature. If the shipmate named a later book in a series, I included book one for readers who want to begin the series at the beginning. Some selections are old classics, others are new releases. I hope you find a new author to try or see a reminder of an old favourite. Or maybe you’ll discover something to recommend to a friend.

The books that appeared from the bridge of Starship JJ Green this year included Mercenary Mage, Accursed Space, and Flight from Sanctuary, book 4, 5, and 6 of the Star Mage Saga. The Valiant, book 1 of new space fantasy, Star Legend, was another new publication, arriving just before Christmas. You can read a snippet of The Valiant here.

Click on a book cover to go to a universal online bookstore link. The link will show you where the books are available in your country. They’re roughly ordered according to price, cheapest to most expensive.

If you would like to share your best science fiction books of 2020, post them on the shipmates’ Facebook page
