Trapped, Shadows of the Void Book 7

Whether you’ve been freezing your socks off in the chilly northern hemisphere or making us northerners jealous by basking in summer heat, I hope you’re enjoying your space voyage aboard Starship JJ Green.

For your onboard entertainment this week I have something rather special. For one day only, you can choose from a selection of 99-cent book bundles and enter a giveaway to win an autographed Game of Thrones limited edition. Both offers end at midnight on 23rd January, so I’m sending this email a little early to avoid readers missing out. Click here to find out more.

Another great bargain is Patty Jansen’s Shifting Reality. Patty’s the author of numerous scifi and fantasy novels and is a well-known and well-respected speculative fiction writer, so I’m especially proud to include her offer this week.

They came from the poorest cities on Earth. They were promised free food and housing. They didn’t know that they, or their children, would never see Earth again.

A few years ago, a military doctor walking the corridors of New Jakarta Space Station saved Melati’s life. She signed up for the International Space Force to pay back her moral debt to him.

But her family thinks she has betrayed her people. It was ISF who forcefully removed their grandmothers and grandfathers from the crowded slums of Jakarta to work in interstellar space stations.

It is Melati’s job to teach six-year old construct soldiers, artificial humans grown in labs and activated with programmed minds to serve in an interstellar war. Her latest cohort has one student who claims that he is not a little boy, but a mindbase traveller whose swap partner took off with his body. It soon becomes clear that a lot of people are scouring the space station for this fugitive, a scientist with dangerous knowledge about interstellar space.

The best place to hide in the space station is amongst the many cultures and subcultures of the expat Indonesian B-sector. Looking for him brings Melati into direct conflict with her people. She does not want to be seen as one of the enemy, but if the scientist’s knowledge falls in the wrong hands, war will come to the station.

I had an interesting week. I was trying to finish lots of things before the Chinese New Year break, which starts today. Many mugs of peppermint tea were drunk in my local cafe.

I hope you didn’t miss my quickie notice that I released the seventh Shadows of the Void book, Trapped. In my hurry to publish, I unfortunately didn’t enroll the book in Kindle Unlimited. I’ve since corrected that error and Trapped’s now available to borrow.

I’ve been delighted to see that many Shadows of the Void books have received new reviews over the last few days. I always deeply appreciate it when a reader takes the time to write a review, and I’m sure other readers do too. If you’ve ever hesitated to leave a comment, don’t underestimate how helpful your thoughts are.

That’s it for now. I’ll write again soon with more book bargains and other news.

Until then, happy reading!
