Carrie Hatchett's Christmas Story

“Her alien house guest, who resembled something between a large sugar glider and a bat, had lived with her for many years. A last-minute present from Dave, Flux was ‘on the run’ from his home planet and was hiding out at her house. Her grocery bill had gone up considerably while he’d lived with her, and he’d grown so fat that sometimes he struggled to fly. She suspected the two facts were connected.

“Have you been raiding the Christmas tree?” She wasn’t only referring to the silver tinsel wreathing his body or the shiny star that sat on his head. He also had suspiciously brown, gooey smears around his mouth. She’d thought she’d concealed the chocolate decorations effectively, hiding them among the baubles and festive trinkets adorning her tree. Apparently, she’d been mistaken.

“I repeat,” Flux said irritably. “How do I look?”

SHIP’S LOG

It’s taken a little longer than I would have liked to get this year’s Carrie Hatchett’s Christmas story tapped into my laptop, mostly due to a pinched nerve in my neck – thanks, encroaching old age!

Yet it’s been amazing fun returning to Carrie, her long-suffering bestie, Dave, massive, terrifying insectoid alien manager, Gavin, and the rest of the crew.
