You might have heard about Storm Arwen that crossed the UK a few days ago. You might even have experienced it, in which case I hope it wasn’t too bad for you.
You might also have heard about the people trapped in the highest pub in the UK, the Tan Hall Inn, for three or four days. I can’t think of a better place to be snowed in, can you? Apparently, some of those trapped didn’t want to leave.
Happily, we missed all the drama here in Cambridge, though the ship’s cat is feeling the cold. You can see a pic of him at the bottom of the bulletin, snuggling in a duvet.
Sorry for not writing last week. I was too busy finishing off Star Mage Saga book 7, Fatal Star. And tonight it goes out to patrons! If you’re a Patreon supporter, you’ll receive a message soon.
There’s still time to sign up if you’d like to receive an early copy.
The last bulletin included a competition to win a signed paperback copy of Star Mage Saga book 2, Dark Mage Rises. So many shipmates wrote in to name their favourite science fiction film. Bladerunner figured highly, as did Star Wars, Independence Day, Avatar, Alien and Silent Running. My personal favourite is Bladerunner. I’m pleased to announce the winner is Cherry Blackmore!
Today’s featured books are Space Colony One book 1, The Concordia Deception, currently on sale for 99c (or 89c if you go direct) and the free prequel, Night of Flames.

Facing the enemy at the gates
All her life Cariad had one dream: to participate in humanity’s colonization of deep space. After topping her field as a geneticist, and then spending 184 years in cryonic suspension, she’s achieved her goal.
But the new planet is not the paradise the scientists predicted. Alien predators come out at night, ready to feast on the new arrivals, and saboteurs have stowed away aboard the ship, determined to destroy the new colony.
To defeat the settlers’ enemies, Cariad must enlist the help of the disgruntled Gens, last in the line of generational colonists who lived and died on the long journey to the stars, and who hate the Woken scientists.
Infighting and strife plague Cariad’s efforts. If the colony’s factions don’t pull together, the flame of hope for humanity will be snuffed out.

Ever wondered what it would be like to live on a starship? It was the only life Ethan knew.
When the colony starship Nova Fortuna reaches the end of its 184-year journey, most of its passengers have grown up aboard ship. They have no idea what it’s like to feel the wind on their faces or get wet in the rain.
On the first night of the new colony, Ethan is one of the lucky few who are sleeping planetside. Most of the others are Gens like Ethan, bred and born on the starship. A few are Woken, who were revived from cryonic suspension two years prior to Arrival.
The colonists settle down to sleep, but Ethan is restless. A strange noise disturbs him, and so begins the fight for his life, the lives of the settlers, and the colony itself.

It’s been a lot of fun re-acquainting myself with Carina Lin, main character of the Star Mage Saga. In Fatal Star I think it’s fair to say she faces her greatest challenges yet and doesn’t come away unscathed.
I was recently asked who is my favourite character out of all my series, and I picked Carina. She’s the one who fights the hardest odds, and all for the people she loves.
But now I have to say goodbye to Carina and return to Taylan Ellis and Major Wright in book 5 of Star Legend, The Dauntless. My mind is bursting with ideas for the next part of their story.
Enjoy your books, stay sane, safe, and happy.
