Shadows of the Void

As you can see, Jas Harrington’s eyewear wasn’t suitable for viewing the eclipse, but I promise you she was only chasing villains. She’s far too smart to risk damaging her eyes, even if, in her time period, the docs can grow new ones for you.

Did you see the eclipse? I’m so jealous. I missed the one in the UK several years ago. I hope it was a great experience for you.

I’ve been thankful for Starship JJ Green’s air cooling system this week, as in Taiwan the weather is sweltering. Luckily for me, it’s the perfect weather for writing because it’s too hot to go anywhere! I’ve been putting the finishing touches to Star Mage Exile, my Chris Fox anthology submission. Go here if you’d like to read the latest snippet, where the mercs embark on their mission to rescue a kidnapped boy.

The plan is that I’ll begin my space colonisation series this week. The prequel, Space Colony One: Night of Flames appears in The Expanding Universe 2, and the series will be a trilogy.

Talking of flames, let me introduce you to two great 99-cent awesome scifi bargains. The first is books 1 – 3 of Universe in Flames by Christian Kallas, and the second is the follow up to a book I showed you a couple of weeks ago.

If you picked up Rika Mechanized, don’t miss out on the sequel, Rika Outcast, which is 99 cents for one day only. If you didn’t download Rika Mechanized, now’s your chance to snap up both books.

Rika Outcast

In the Age of the Orion War…

Rika is mech-meat, a cyborg killing machine, created by the Genevian military and cast aside when the war was lost.

Now she slings cargo on Dekar Station, falling deeper in debt as she struggles to make enough money to keep her cybernetic body functioning. The local gangs would love to have her join their ranks, and the takings would pay her bills, but the only thing Rika hates more than what she’s become, is killing for others.

But morals don’t buy repairs and she’s at the point of utter desperation when her loan holder cashes in her debt and sells her to the highest bidder.

When Rika wakes, she’s in a warehouse on a planet she’s never heard of, and a trio of mercenaries are reassembling her body. Their mission is to kill the world’s president, and her mods and abilities are just what they need to get the job done.

Whether she likes it or not, Rika is in the business of killing once more as she joins the ranks of the Marauders.

Universe in Flames

I am Fury. Evil has followed me to Earth. I shall Protect this World until my Dying Breath.

When the Obsidian Empire obliterates the Star Alliance with the help of the Zarlacks, an old evil race long thought extinct, the universe is set ablaze. The last survivors are forced to make a blind jump beyond the outer reach of the charted universe, to a world teeming with life: Earth. The fleet’s arrival inadvertently alerts the enemies to the presence of sentient life in that part of space, resulting in a swift and devastating invasion of the blue marble.

Under the guidance of the Olympian goddess of Love, Aphroditis, Lieutenant Chase Athanatos learns of his origins and must race against time in a daring attempt to save Earth, their Last Sanctuary.

With Earth now thrown at the center of the conflict, the newly formed Earth Alliance struggles to keep the enemy at bay. Desperately outnumbered, Chase and his friends must wage one battle after another while seeking new allies to survive.
When it becomes clear that his Fury powers are awakening in him, Chase must face his inner demons and learn to control them or he could very well destroy the universe he has sworn to protect. Can his Fury heritage and unwavering determination hold the key to change the course of everyone’s destiny?

I’m also pleased to bring you another Kindle giveaway opportunity. Go here to enter the competition and to see a wide selection of 99-cent fantasy and sci-fi books.

You may remember last week’s holiday photo competition. The entries to win a signed paperback copy of There Comes a Time were slim, but I chose a lucky winner.

It’s the final week of the school holidays here, and I’m very much looking forward to getting my nose firmly back to the grindstone. I have problems with focusing on more than one thing at a time, and though summer activities are fun, I enjoy the simplicity of the work routine.

Before school starts, however, we’ll be whiling away the final days of freedom watching the Universiade games, proudly hosted in Taipei. We don’t see many international events in our little corner of the world, so I want to take advantage of the opportunity.

Maybe I’ll find some inspiration for my next sci-fi adventures among the brave, hard-working athletes and the nail-biting competitions and rivalries. There’s bound to be a Jas Harrington equivalent among them.

Happy reading!
