The Chinese New Year school break has begun here in Taiwan, and, boy, don’t I know it! A large, bored fifteen year old cabin boy is lurking around the starship. What do you think I should make him do? Polish the consoles? Replenish the sanobots? The list of chores on interstellar vessels is endless.

Sometimes readers are curious about our lives in Taiwan. I actually wrote a blog on interesting things we did for a few years. It’s called Tales From the Beautiful Isle, and it’s still up on the web if you want to know more about our adopted home. I might add some more posts over the next few months as our time here draws to a sad close.

Last week I told you about my new account at Booksprout, where I’ll be offering free books for reviewing. Many thanks if you downloaded a copy of Carrie Hatchett, Space Adventurer. If you missed out, don’t worry. I’ll be putting up another free ARC copy in a couple of weeks.

In the meantime, I have two suggestions for series to get stuck into in 2019. The first is A.K. DuBoff’s 4-book Mindspace series, which is set in her Cadicle universe, and the second is Michael Campling’s fascinating space colonisation series, Colony B.

Mindspace

Prevent a stellar civil war… or die trying.

When Captain Kira Elsar comes face-to-face with a military assault mech inside a civilian research lab, it’s abundantly clear that MTech is up to no good.

Illegal alien nanotech experimentation. Clandestine political dealings. Disappearances. Connections all trace back to MTech’s newest research lab on Kira’s homeworld.

As the Tararian Guard’s sole telepath, Kira goes undercover to get to the bottom of the mystery. Hints point to a brewing stellar civil war, but she needs to gather proof. Except, the mysterious forces behind the conflict already have their own plans for Kira that will change her life forever.

Set in the internationally bestselling Cadicle space opera universe, the standalone Mindspace series is perfect for fans of sci-fi with superhuman abilities, political intrigue, military action, and devious aliens.

Colony B

Wall by Michael Campling

Wall by Michael Campling

On this planet, the wall is safety. Go beyond it, and the settlers will die.

They are lost, they are alone, but at least they’re sure of their survival. Until now.

Far from Earth and shipwrecked on a desolate planet, a band of brave settlers strive to carve out a life for themselves on a range of hills while battling to hold back the carpet of deadly microorganisms that creeps across the lowlands below, devouring all in its path.

The settlers survive from day to day, but their lives are thrown into chaos one fateful night when five of their young men go missing. And that’s when they see the lights. Out there in the deadly wasteland, there are headlights carving through the darkness.

Someone is coming. And perhaps they mean to stay.

Find out more when you explore the world of Colony B. But for your own safety, stay behind the wall.

Enjoy your books!

P.S. Did you see the moon eclipse? Got pictures? Post them on our Facebook page for all the shipmates to see.
