I think it’s accurate to say, without being untrue or unkind, that the ship’s cat exhibits a fair share of the complement of annoying cat habits, including tripping you up as you walk, staring incredulously at a door he’s just asked you to open and, after he’s finally gone through, immediately wanting to come back, sitting down on your face while you’re asleep, and so on. I’m sure you know many more examples of this typical cat behaviour.

We were never sure if he behaved like this because he was lacking in the brains department, or he was just plain difficult.

I’m sure you know where this is going.

The chief engineer recently installed an airlock, otherwise called a cat flap, on the port side of the starship, but we were in grave doubts about whether the cat would ever learn to use it. We could imagine many hours spent holding it open and ushering him through, and then when he wanted to come in, going outside and holding it open for him again.

The matter wasn’t helped by the fact that he’s carrying an extra pound or two around the middle and the portal is a bit of a squeeze.

But, what do you know, he did it! The ship’s cat is now the master of his own airlock and can disappear on space walks whenever he wants.

Which means he isn’t dumb, only a PITA.

But we still love him.

Will her bestie, straight-laced kleptomaniac Dave, manage to keep her on the straight and narrow? Will aliens invade Earth at Christmas AGAIN?
