Shadows of the Void

Your ship’s bulletin is packed with scandal and intrigue this week. Well, as far as scandal and intrigue are possible in the world of science fiction and fantasy writing.

Let’s address the scandal first. You might have come across fantasy writer Terry Goodkind’s unwise and unkind criticism of the cover of one of his books. The criticism was unkind because it reflected on the artist, who was understandably wounded. You can see the post here. (Facebook link) It is actually quite a nice cover in my opinion. Even if it weren’t, it was unprofessional of Mr. Goodkind to make his views public.

Now comes the intrigue. Amazon has been inexplicably deleting reviews. This the company’s right and is no doubt part of their efforts to tackle false reviews. However, sometimes Amazon is heavy-handed in its approach. I’m one of many authors who have lost reviews, and none of mine are false. I wanted to tell you about this in case any of your reviews were taken down, and to reassure you that authors have nothing do with the process. We love our reviewers and cherish each one we receive.

Let’s move on to brighter subjects. My writing has been progressing at a cracking pace. In fact, I’m thinking of calling this year The Year of Writing Crazily. I’m really enjoying delving into M.D. Cooper’s universe. So far, I have a brilliant engineer at loggerheads with a marine biologist as they each try to do their best for the planetary colonisation. Meanwhile, someone is intent on stealing dangerously advanced technology.

As another book in Michael’s universe is on special offer I’m including Hired Gun today. I also recommend that you check out Lucky Universe by Joshua James, the first book in a new space marines series.

Hired Gun

Reece is all about her Akonwaran whiskey.

Well, that, and a good fight. If her job doesn’t give her enough opportunity, her best friend Kippy will hustle up a brawl for her at his bar.

Most of the time, she’s busy enough as a corporate fixer to keep her satisfied. Some people call her a bounty hunter, and she does do a lot of hunting people down. Her expertise goes much deeper than that, though, she demands a steep price for it.

When her boss assigns her an unwanted partner, Reece is further dismayed to find that he’s a gen-mod from outside the retro zone. The last thing she wants to do is be a mentor to someone like that. She’ll scrape him off if she can.

As they chase a rogue scientist out of the Machete system, she’s looking for a way to get rid of him. That endeavor takes a backseat when their search for the scientist takes them into greater danger than either of them bargained for.

She’ll have to move fast and shoot straight to get out of this one.

A hired gun goes where the job is, and doesn’t ask too many questions.

Lucky Universe

Leap into the action and hang on like hell.

“I couldn’t put this down!”
“So many twists in the story.”
“Love the main character!”
– Five-star Amazon reviews

In a desperate fight against insurmountable odds, mankind’s only hope is a lifer Marine with a violent past he can barely remember and a penchant for picking fights he shouldn’t win.

Ambushed behind enemy lines and left for dead along with a handful of privates so green they actually respect his authority, Lance Cpl. Lucky Lee Savage has to master his inner demons, manage the ambitions of his foul-mouthed AI, and figure out what is tearing a hole in the fabric of space-time before everything goes tits up.

Lucky wouldn’t bet on the universe. One thing he will bet on: Somewhere, somehow, somebody is going to pay for all this. And he is going to be right there to pull the trigger.

“Starship Troopers” meets “Jason Bourne” via “Aliens” in this gleefully addictive, full-throttle military sci-fi adventure.
