The Earth Chronicles

I hope you had as good a week as I did on our starship voyage. After several weeks of trying to write the prequel to my Shadows of the Void serial, I finally made some good progress. I still haven’t finished the story, but now I’m confident that I can. In case you’re interested to catch a glimpse of the work in progress, I’m adding a copy of the first chapter at the end of this post. Please feel free to write to me with your comments at jenny@jjgreenauthor.com. As always, I’d love to hear from you.

Another project this week has been creating a paperback of the second part of Shadows of the Void, The Earth Chronicles. I saw that I’d sold some paperbacks of the first part, The Galathea Chronicles, and I thought I’d better provide a sequel! It’s a time-consuming process, but I’m nearly there.

I also spent quite some time looking at the amazing photographs that were entered into last week’s competition. It was frankly nigh on impossible to pick a winner from all the stunning photographs I received. In the end, I chose Richard Dinwiddie’s entry. I’ll give the reasons and results below.

Finally, for your 99-cent special this week, I thought you might be interested in Passage to Paradise, the second book in my Carrie Hatchett, Space Adventurer series, which is on promotion for just another couple of days.

Carrie Hatchett is back. The Transgalactic Council may never be the same.

Passage to Paradise, Carrie Hatchett, Space Adventurer #2

After a successful first mission, Carrie thought her job as Transgalactic Intercultural Community Crisis Liaison Officer was secure. But all bets are off when she travels to Dandrobia, a genetically engineered utopia. Beautiful and immortal, the dandrobians have been confined to their planet due their former tyrannical reign over the galaxy. Carrie must mediate between the dandrobians and their victims, the squashpumps.
She finds paradise isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, and, as often happens when she’s around, things don’t go according to plan. Dandrobians escape to Earth, and the negotiations descend into chaos.
With the help of her long-suffering friend, Dave, Carrie must send the dandrobians home and restore peace. If she fails, it isn’t only her job at risk, because there’s more to the dandrobians than meets the eye.
Rogue, Carrie’s butt-ugly dog, lends a paw.
Passage to Paradise is book two in the light-hearted, fast-paced Carrie Hatchett, Space Adventurer series, and you can download a copy here.

Reader Competition Results

Thanks so much to everyone who entered my competition to win a signed paperback of Carrie Hatchett, Space Adventurer books 1 to 3. I received 29 entries on Facebook, 9 via Twitter, and 15 emails.

Locations ranged from Pendle Hill, Lancashire, UK, through Norway (hi, Linda!) to Western Cape, South Africa. I had entries from the famous historic town of Ironbridge, UK, Turkey, Delaware, Perth, Australia, Redding, Ca, Starkville, Mississippi, Jacksonville, Florida, West Auckland, New Zealand, and too many more to mention.

In the end I picked the image of the Earth that Richard Dinwiddie entered. He posted: “Here is a pic from our world’s best camera. if you can back track from there to a single primary star solar system with eight orbiting planets you’re getting close. I am on the pretty blue, third planet out, in the northern hemisphere in a little place called Harker Heights Texas. Let me know if your dropping by, I’ll leave the lights on for ya.”

I felt like Richard’s entry represented the attitude we all need to hold onto in these divisive times.

I have a couple more things to tell you about before I sign off this week. Two related book promotions are running until the 19th of February. Some scifi and fantasy authors are offering a mid-month double whammy of related sets of books.

Browse a selection of free books here, then check out these 99-cent bargains. Many writers have submitted their first book in a series to the free promo and included the second book in the 99-cent deal.

What’s Coming

If you’ve ever been to my website you’ll know that it’s quite – ahem – basic. I didn’t have the skills to make it better, so I’ve commissioned a designer to revamp it. Hopefully, next week I can invite you all to the official opening.

Until then, I hope you find some great stories to enjoy and have a wonderful week.

Happy reading!
