I have lots to tell you this week and something for everyone, I hope. My prequel to Shadows of the Void is nearly finished, and once I’ve made corrections as directed by my lovely editor, Lacey, it’ll appear on Amazon.
If you’ve read Generation, you might remember that the main character, Jas, has a recurring nightmare. Also, in later books in the Shadows of the Void series, she refers to her college days in Antarctica. This new book tells the story of what happened to her there.
I’ll be offering this book free to new subscribers, and it wouldn’t be fair if you also didn’t get a free copy, would it? So in next week’s email I’m going to include a link where you can download the book. The graphic at the top of this post
is from the book’s cover. I love cool starships!
In the meantime, I have a discounted scifi book, a giveaway and a short story promotion for you.
Check out Drew Cordell’s cyberpunk novel, Absolute Knowledge, which is discounted for just another couple of days.
My life changed in a matter of minutes. The choices I made led me to a life of crime and caused me to become the worst sort of criminal; I became a traitor to the country of New York. For better or worse, the path my life has taken is irreversible. I’ve killed, I’ve died, and I’ve risked my life in attempt to destroy a society built on over one hundred years of lies and corruption.
My name is Jacob Ashton, and this is my story.
Absolute Knowledge is the first of a cyberpunk science fiction trilogy which takes place in a dark, futuristic New York City set in 2146. The country of New York is divided into three physical tiers and the faceless Government is working to establish Absolute Knowledge.
Working as Thinkers, the citizens of the Slums are paid for their thoughts and given vouchers needed to sustain their cost of living. Since the Government controls almost everything, most citizens are forced to either work as Thinkers or turn to a life of disconnect from society under the harshest of conditions.
In Absolute Knowledge, every thought has a price.
Drew Cordell’s debut novel, Absolute Knowledge, is a new addition to the great cyberpunk sci-fi tradition of William Gibson, Ernest Cline, Bruce Sterling, and John Shirley. Download your copy here.
If you’re like me, you have a book wish list as long as your arm. This $100 Amazon gift card would go a long way to making a dent in anyone’s list. Click here for multiple chances to win.
When I first began writing fiction, I wrote short stories, and I still love to read them. To me, they’re a special kind of fiction quite different from novels. If you share my passion, or you’d just like some free reading, go here to select from more than thirty stories.
What’s New
A couple more news items:
As I said above, I used to write short stories, and the dark fiction magazine, Lamplight, published one of my stories: a time travel narrative called There Comes a Time.
I was very excited to hear from the magazine’s editors a few weeks ago when they told me they wanted to make a radio play of the story. I just heard that the production is nearly finished! When I have the link, I’ll include it in a newsletter.
Some of you know that as well as writing science fiction, I also work as a freelance writer to help pay the bills. It’s been my lifetime ambition to write novels for a living, but that hasn’t been possible so far.
To help inch closer to my dream, I decided that I would open a Patreon account where I can build a reader community, offer sneak peeks at works in progress, answer questions on writing and self-publishing, provide free monthly stories, signed paperbacks and other goodies to my readers in return for their patronage. When my account’s ready, I’ll add a button to my newsletters.
One more thing–the most exciting news I read this week was the discovery of seven Earth-sized rocky planets orbiting a nearby star. How long until we discover extraterrestrial life, I wonder? Now that would make a wonderful story.
Happy reading!
