It feels very strange to be writing to you from a hotel room in Christchurch, New Zealand. We arrived around midday after what was for me a surreal bus journey from Greymouth on the West Coast, across Arthur’s Pass. The journey was surreal because I’d taken a travel sickness tablet which made me constantly fall asleep, and whenever I woke I would see the most amazing, almost alien landscape views over the mountains. Lots of inspiration for science fiction stories!
You can see a few pics from Starship JJ Green’s voyage here. Like me, they aren’t up-to-date, but I’ll post more later, especially the ones of our trip to see the Franz Josef glacier. It was an amazing sight.
What’s also been amazing about this trip has been how my writing has had its own place in it. For example, Rodger, a reader who lives Christchurch, invited me to a performance this morning that sadly I wasn’t able to make, and the quarantine officer at Christchurch airport said he was going to try my books.
Meanwhile, while I’ve been away, everything’s been quietly ticking along. A lovely new reviewer, Judy, has been working through my books and leaving reviews on every one. (Thanks, Judy! I’ll contact you when I have a bit more free time.)
To keep you shipmates ticking along with great science fiction novels, take a look at John Triptych’s latest release, Wetworld, book 1 in his Alien Rebellion series. Then join me below for some news on changes aboard Starship JJ Green.
New Bali is a swamp world located 20 light-years from Earth. Colonized by humans almost two hundred years before, the planet is also home to an intelligent, methane-breathing race of amphibians. The natives have a unique culture that precludes war and vengeance, but recent events have begun to unravel a once fragile peace.
Sophie Singh, heir to a vast conglomerate, must decide whether to retain her family’s control of Wetworld while Brother Moises Borbon, a conflicted Jesuit researcher, races against time to unlock the true meaning behind an alien art form that might be the key to truly understanding the natives.
These and many more unforgettable characters will experience critical choices ahead in the first part of this science fiction saga on colonialism, war, and sociopolitical upheaval.

You might already know that one of my two news series is a science fantasy called Star Mage Saga – see below for your free copy. If you enjoy that genre mix, take a look at these science fantasy free books here, which are free from Bookfunnel.
What’s Coming Up?
Going away on holiday has given me time to reflect on Starship JJ Green and my writing. You can expect some changes to the style of the ship’s bulletin and redoubled efforts to involve you, as a shipmate, in the writing of my stories.
You can also expect to see some more gorgeous covers. I’ll soon be working with Christian Bentulan to create the cover for The Concordia Deception, and Amalia Chetulescu for the cover to book 2 in my Star Mage Saga.
I hope life is treating you well. Until I’m back in Taiwan…
Happy reading!
P.S. A Bookbub international promotion is beginning soon on Mission Improbable, book 1 in my Carrie Hatchett, Space Adventurer series. What this means is that the book is reduced to 99 cents across most non-US bookstores. The US Amazon has lowered the price due to its price-matching feature.
