It’s my birthday! How did the year pass so quickly? And what a fantastic year it’s been. I met nearly all my publishing goals and I made many new friends among my shipmates.

If you replied to my survey, many thanks. I learned plenty of interesting and useful information. There were so many entries I decided to give away two paperbacks. The winners are 35coyotes and Logan’s Mom. Congratulations!

I asked if you wanted to ask me a question, and each ship’s bulletin I’m going to answer one suggested question. The first is, Who were you influenced by? That’s both easy and hard to answer. The writers I’ve loved include Ursula le Guin, Phillip K. Dick, Douglas Adams. Ann Leckie and Gene Wolfe. But I’ve also been heavily influenced by TV series and films from a very young age. Star Trek, Dr. Who, Planet of the Apes and Bladerunner made big impressions on me as I was growing up.

Perhaps you’ve noticed the influence of some of these writers and stories in my books? I’d be interested to find out.

To celebrate my birthday I’m discounting books 2 and 3 of space colonisation series Building New Canaan, Tyre and Troy. For a very short time only, you can get the first three books in the series for 99 cents or 99p, and that’s outside the US and UK too.

The final book, Athens, comes out this time next month. Michael and I have something special for readers who have bought the entire set, so now’s your chance to snap these up.

Tyre, Building New Canaan book 2

Tyre: World of endless fun and deadly danger.

Erin has been working like a dog to make New Canaan safe from its enemies, and she’s looking forward to her first vacation in ages.

But just when she thinks she can finally relax, Tanis Richards asks her to investigate a disaster at an asteroid mining operation.
What Erin finds sets her nose twitching. Something isn’t right. She has her suspicions about what really happened, but she lacks evidence to pin the blame where it belongs.

As her investigation continues, suspicions become imminent danger and she reveals a lethal threat to Tyre, New Canaan, and the people she loves.

Her next project is Messene, Troy’s vast, new space station, which will play a key role in the planet’s defense. But Erin finds that Trojans have a huge chip on their shoulders, and an old enemy lurks among them.
