Apologies if you’re in the southern hemisphere and you said goodbye to summer several weeks ago, but, oh man, it’s good to be in the UK when summer finally arrives.

There’s nothing quite like a British winter. I doubt you could find anywhere in the world that’s greyer or wetter. But there’s also nothing quite like summer here, when the skies finally clear, the rain stops and the bees and butterflies appear.

Summer is also the time for long reads, whether you’re on a beach, train, aeroplane or just staying at home for a quiet evening, so for this ship’s bulletin I’ve included a free boxset of seven summer sci-fi books. Download it now if you think you might be interested in any of them because I’m not sure how long the set will stay free.

Last week’s bulletin promised you pictures of cool fighter planes and here they are! Check out the pics below (not all are fighters).

Your captain and the cabin boy visited Duxford Imperial War Museum, a truly amazing place. What I loved best about the museum is the comprehensive information given, including general data on the models, info on the actual exhibits such as missions they flew, and – most importantly – the stories of the people who flew them.

Naturally, as with all military history, the stories are bittersweet tales of courage, comradeship and heroism coupled with tragedy.

Sadly, I don’t have the room to include the information as well as the pics, but please feel free to comment on planes you recognize or stories you know.
