Shadow War, Shadows of the Void Book 10

I’m proud to reveal the cover of Shadow War, the final book in the Shadows of the Void series! If you voted in my poll last month, you’ll be familiar with this great cover.

After a lovely week showing my sister and niece the sights, sounds and smells of Taiwan, I have my nose back to the grindstone. I’ll be putting Shadow War up for pre-order in about two weeks, and I’m hoping to beat my self-imposed deadline of August for its release. We’ll see.

In the meantime, there’s plenty of sci-fi action happening to keep us all occupied. I’m particularly looking forward to taking my son to see Wonder Woman. The film isn’t strictly sci-fi I suppose, but it’s close enough. If you’ve already seen it, no spoilers!

But life isn’t complete without a good sci-fi book to bury our noses in, right? This week I have a great offer for you from Amy DuBoff. You’ve probably heard of her Cadicle series. Well, she’s offering the first three books for 99 cents, but only until the 7th of June, so you’ll have to be quick to nab a copy or three.

The lost colony of Earth has no idea that the galaxy-spanning Taran empire is on the brink of an interdimensional war…

A character-driven space opera with adventure, intrigue, romance, and telekinesis for fans of DuneEnder’s Game, and Star Wars!

When Cris leaves Tararia to pursue his telekinetic abilities, he thinks he’s started a new life. Years later, he learns that freedom was always an illusion—he and his family are at the center of an elaborate galactic conspiracy. Written in the style of classic sci-fi from the Golden Age, the Cadicle series follows three generations of the Sietinen Dynasty as they discover their roles in a secret war. Torn by duty and morality, their decisions will change the course of the Taran civilization.

This omnibus includes the first three volumes in the Cadicle space opera series: “Volume 1 – Architects of Destiny” (prequel), “Volume 2 – Veil of Reality,” and “Volume 3 – Bonds of Resolve.” All seven volumes of the complete series are now available.

“Enjoyable, galaxy-spanning epic series” (Publisher’s Weekly).

If your stock of free sci-fi books is running low, check out this selection of 70 books from Instafreebie here.

A couple more things to report on this week. Some readers have told me they have problems downloading books from Instafreebie, so I opened an account at Bookfunnel. As I understand it, Bookfunnel makes the whole download process much easier. So far, I’ve only uploaded Starbound, but if you had problems picking up your copy, you can try here.

I also had an interesting conversation with some readers about Universal Basic Income (UBI). You may already know that this is a controversial idea that because automation of many unskilled and skilled jobs will mean mass unemployment in the future, each citizen of a nation should receive a subsistence income.

Personally, I agree with Elon Musk that UBI is inevitable if we want to avoid economic and social instability, whether we approve of the idea or not. I was too busy to keep up the discussion at the time, but I’ll be rejoining it soon. I’d love to hear your opinion too. Go here to leave a comment. I’ll look forward to hearing what you have to say.

Happy reading!
