After many years of thinking I should put all my shipmates’ freebie stories in one volume, I finally got around to it. SHIP’S LOG

Another free story is on its way to you. In keeping with the winter weather, I’ve been writing this year’s Carrie Hatchett Christmas story. (The ship’s cat has retreated to his heating pad – see pic at the bottom.) Thanks to the results of a readers’ poll, the story is set in New Zealand.

Carrie is a strange kind of hero, but she usually wins through in the end. As you can imagine, I spend quite a lot of time thinking about heroes and I’m always keen to hear ideas about what makes a hero.
