Your captain is feeling a little burned out this week, as is usually the case when I’m coming to the end of a book. Tyre is in its last stages. Erin, Isa and Martin have laughed, played, fought and been mystified and now the story is building to the big climax.
You might remember that I held a cocktail-naming competition where I invited you to submit your ideas for galactic cocktails. Well, I had a lot of fun including some of the names in Tyre, and I plan to include all of them over the entire series.
Building New Canaan is a space colonisation series, so starship captains don’t play a big role. But I’m interested to hear who is your favourite captain. Name him or her here on our Facebook group or reply to this email.
Due to being in the book-finishing phase, I’ve barely left the house all week, but as we’ve been experiencing torrential rain and flooding, my reclusiveness hasn’t been such a bad thing. If you can say one thing about the weather in Taiwan, it has to be that it’s never boring.
Check out this week’s great 99-cent book offers, Earl T. Roske’s Rescue on Gimhae and Marc Landau’s Outpost Omega.
Aid. Comfort. Defend.
There is no love lost between the Radial Marines and the Hospitaller Orphan Corps. So, when Sergeant Seavers learns a platoon of Marines will be tagging along for the drop down to the surface of Gimhae, he’s certain this will doom his chances at officer candidate training.
As if that wasn’t enough for one mission, the colonists on Gimhae are acting skittish and uncharacteristically rude. Sgt Seavers isn’t used to this kind of behavior. Not from people his team of Hospitallers has come to save from the terraflu.
Something’s amiss. Sgt Seavers can feel it. And it may have something to do with the smuggler ships hiding over the next hill.
Rescue on Gimhae is the first book in the Stories of the Orphan Corps series. It is also a standalone story in the Hospitaller universe. There is no required sequence to the books in the Stories of the Orphan Corps series.
Be the first on deck to experience the beginning of the adventures with the Orphan Corps.

One man. One robot. One dog. And a strange alien rock. Can they save the universe?
Life’s not going as planned on Earth Prime. Wil’s lost his job, his living quarters, and the love of his life. Now all he wants is to get as far away as possible from his problems.
But like the saying goes, you can’t run away from yourself.
He takes a sub-level military job as a night watchman patrolling the farthest end of the galaxy. He sits, watches, and waits. Alone, except for a robot and a contraband dog. Nothing ever happens at the farthest reach of the universe.
Until it does.
What starts out as an escape from life ends up thrusting Wil into the middle of war, an alien invasion, and mysterious lifeform as powerful as a God.
