If you’re a sci-fi geek (let’s face it, if you aren’t, what are you doing here?) you must have wondered what it might be like to live on another planet.

As well as all the practical considerations – radiation, unbreathable atmosphere, different gravity, lack of water and food – there is also the problem of getting along with your fellow colonists.

Sometimes, the biggest danger is other people!

Given the chance, would you live on another planet? What would be your dealbreakers? Tell us on the shipmates’ Facebook page.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot while writing Talman Prime the Star Legend spinoff that explores the destinies of passengers on the Interstellar Fleet.

And if you’ve read my Space Colony One series, you’ll know I cover some potential scenarios in it. Newbies to the series can start with the free prequel, Night of Flames.

SHIP’S LOG

Have you heard this old riddle? As I was going to St. Ives, I met a man with seven wives…? I was amazed to discover that the chief engineer was entirely ignorant of this essential part of an English childhood.

The subject came up because this week’s monster walk began and ended in St. Ives, Cambridgeshire. You can see some pics on the shipmates’ Facebook page.

Other non-writing activities included baking a Christmas cake. Though mid-November may seem way early for Christmas nibbles, the cake is fed with brandy for six or more weeks before eating.

Check out the final result at the bottom of the bulletin. I would love to send you some, but unfortunately there isn’t enough to go around.
